Master Gary Jones.
5th Dan
I started my Taekwondo journey in 2001 after my athletics career ended after breaking my left ankle playing football.
I was relativly late (28) when I started Taekwondo and I do wish I started it sooner than I did.
I enjoyed the different type of training as well as the way martial arts teaches you a whole different set of skills not only physically but mentally too.
As I progressed up through the lower grades I entered some competitions. I didn't do too bad picking up a few medals here and there.
ACHEIVING MY GOAL
I took my Black Belt promotion test on a very hot August bank holiday weekend in Hamilton (Scotland 2010) It was a tough grading and I wasn't sure if I was successful as I felt I could of done better than I did but I have always been my own harshest critic.
As you can Imagine I was very happy that I had achieved my goal of getting my Black Belt.
On the 11th March 2011 I took my very first Taekwondo class. It was something I always wanted to do and another goal I had set myself and I achieved it. I like many other instructors have done in their time teaching have had ups and downs but its how you deal with them and what lessons you can learn from them.
I gained promotion to 2nd Dan Black Belt in 2012 and went on to gain my 3rd Dan Black Belt in 2014.
In 2015 I got my level 2 coaching qualification with British Taekwondo. I have as recently as 2020 renewed my coaching qualification under UKTDC and have been advanced DBS checked since I started teaching in 2011.
I joined UKTDC in November 2017 under the guidance of GM Hudson at Inspire Taekwondo. In March 2018 I was promoted to 4th Dan Black Belt which also gives me the rank of Master. I am due to take my 5th Dan in March 2022.
